the 12 disciples
the town of Ilkley is behind me
on our way down to it
the old bath houses of Ilkley
our bed for the night
Day 2
leaving Ilkley
it's a squeeze
the clock is correct
the first style of the day
a different way of getting over a wall
walking besides the River Wharfe
the ruins of Bolton Abbey
Peter stepping out!
as you can see, Bolton Abbey is a tourist attraction
a narrow part of the River Wharfe
where's the dog?
a helping hand
through the fields again
following the River Wharfe to Burnsall
entering the village of Burnsall
the local school
and church
we're staying at this farmhouse tonight in Burnsall
Day 3
walking by the church gate in Burnsall
walking with Angela from Australia
this is still the River Wharfe
the bridge is reflected well
this is Grassington
the weather is deteriorating
a tight squeeze again
it's brighter again
Colin shows Angela how to use the Silva Compass
striding forth
steps in the wall so that we can get through to the next field
onwards to Kettlewell
a threatening sky yet again
heading towards the trees which will shelter us for lunch
it's lunch time
heading down to Kettlewell
showing a leg as "The Calendar Girls" was filmed here
the centre of the village
the saga continues
Angela has now left us;she is stopping the night in Kettlewell
walking amongst the cows
strolling into Buckden
what a great sign to come across
our B&B for the night
and this ended up being next door to our B&B
Liz is pleased to take the weight off her feet
Day 4
ready to start
saying goodby to Buckden
following the river again
mum and kid sheltering pre the rain
an isolated setting for a post box
we'll soon be leaving the shelter of the River Wharfe
here comes the rain
wistful
we are going to get very wet
it's muddy around here
at the meeting point of The Pennine Way and the Dales Way
clearing up again
lunch time
thank goodness the rain has stopped
another hill
heading for the viaduct and Cowgill
It's European Soccer week and this pub is loyal
our bed for the night;built in 1603 and was a Quaker House
time to get those wet clothes off
a quaint bedroom but about 250 Quakers are buried in the garden!!
refusing to pose for me
Day 5
leaving Cowgill
a narrow lane
into the woods
a striking view
a different look
the sky looks good ahead
rounding up the sheep
a nosey horse
communing with sheep again
the path goes through the garden of the house
only 6 miles by road to our stop for the night at Sedbergh
sheltering under the Elder Tree
heading for Dent
stocking up for lunch
only just wide enough!
off again
following the River Dee via the fields
lunch time again
off towards Sedbergh
through another farm
and into the woods
looking out through the trees
a pretty path
Sedbergh ahead
what a garden
here's Sedbergh

the view from our window
it's curry night
Day 6
it's all uphill to The Howgills
east going at first
head down
the Lakes are in the background
and here they are again
another hill
and yet another
nearly up
looking back on our upward path
starting the descent
gluttons for punishment;must be hashers!
they keep on coming
lunch time
here's where the fell runners started from
watched by a hen
the mums have just been shorn
shall we go this way or not?
which way now?
we've been here before;5 years ago when we did "Coast to Coast"
we've just come from there
biscuits on the Smarsdale Bridge
can we beat the rain?Just 5 miles to go now
maybe not!
Liz looks happy
a rest before the last mile
I'm glad that a fence separates us!
the mums are being sheared and the lambs aren't happy
the shearers are taking a break
through another farmyard and we've kept dry
the view from our B&B in Kirkby Stephen
a very old loo
all done and we're on our wat south
more showers
