Our route from St Ives to Penzance
The Start---lunch stop on the way to St.Ives
not much room in the streets of St.Ives
it's crowded on the beach of St.Ives
but quiet up here
down to the town for supper
August 5th- we're starting the hike as the sun rises
off through the heather
Gorse mingling with heather
our next hill awaits us
up we go
we've reached the top
and can see Gurnards Head
2 of the few houses on the cliff
30 mins later we reach the Head in time for lunch
large stones used for this bridge
2 white specks climbing the cliff behind me
Pendeen Lighthouse in the distance;1st opened in 1900
a quiet bay
a natural backyard with orange Monbresias
looking back at Pendeen Lighthouse 2 hours later
Geever tin mines at Botallack
here they are;men and boys over 14 worked underground
a close up view;in the 1870s production at its best
more old works on the cliff face; these were engine houses
supper time in St.Just,2 miles off the trail
back on the cliffs and setting up for the night
the sun is going down
August 6th--it's breakfast time at 6am!
because these long horns suddenly appeared, heading for the tent
as we leave this area they tell us about the cows!!
ready to go; Lands End in the distance
here comes the sun
the beauty of nature
upwards again
a sea mist
the early bird surfers are out
strolling into Sennen Cove
he says he went into the sea, but I missed it!
there's me
the shower may be cold but the sea was colder
we leave just in time; more surfers are arriving
almost at Lands End,the most westerly point in mainland England
looking back at Sennen Cove
Lands End Lighthouse
what about The Canadians????
leaving Lands End far behind
another solitary home
there's our path
looking back at the caves in the cliffs
a short cut inland
Porthcurno ahead
looking back at Porthcurno
going down to Penberth Cove
what a sight
Penberth Cove;is this where Vince's folk live?
leaving The Cove
king of all he surveys
our only wood on this trip
is this true?
it is indeed and it is tea time
some large boulders
another lighthouse
we've found a cafe for supper at Lamorna
back onto the cliffs to find a good camping spot
we've found one
the sun is arising on the 7th at 7am
a Mousehole cat going for a walk
here's Mousehole
it's very quiet here at 8am on a Saturday morning
Penzance ahead
going through Newlyn,a fishing town
here's Penzance
St.Michael's Mount,an island off Penzance, connected by a causeway at low tide
The priory on it was built in the 14th century by Benedictine monks.
