The Great Escape

Date - 19th November 2006

Hares – Kingfisher and Queenfisher

QF and KF

Report by Queenfisher

It was a great day to escape from the streets of suburbia to the fresh crisp air of Hastings Country Park. About 20 stalwart hashers turned up eager to get their Sunday morning exercise. A shocked gathering noted that Playaway and Bebe (accompanied by Hugo the dog) arrived at least 15 minutes before the commencement of the run.

The runners and walkers set off together, sliding their way along the slippery muddy footpaths.we took the wrong route When we came to a clearing, the runners went off on a convoluted loop while the walkers took the shorter route.
The walkers accompanied by me, soon found themselves out in the open again and turned left. The runners meanwhile followed the trail towards the edge of the cliff (luckily they weren’t lemmings!) and then turned inland before rejoining the walkers’ trail. The walkers continued on to the wait stop but there was no sign of the runners. They were obviously having trouble with catching up with the speedy walkers!
I made an executive decision to continue on our route which now headed down towards Fairlight Cove. After a while we turned left and did a steep uphill climb where we had to wait a few minutes for slow runners such as Cliffbanger and Bushsquatter to catch up with us!!!

what a signThe walkers then continued up a rocky water logged path whilst Kingfisher sent the runners the wrong way. They eventually turned back and caught up with the walkers ensuring that everyone reached the beer stop at the same time. The walkers then took the direct route back to the car park while the runners headed up a tarmac lane. We crossed the road, headed across a field, and then did a loop back to the car park.

We found BeBe distraught in the carpark. Apparently Hugo had done a Houdini and escaped from her car, on route to pick up Harry . Luckily, a public minded citizen had seen the great escape and had taken Hugo to the police station, where Bebe and Hugo were eventually reunited.

Lotus EliseThe Hares and various miscreants were given Down Downs in the circle. We then went to the Beauport Park Golf Club where Lotus was presented with a tankard as she will shortly be emigrating to Australia.
Good luck Lotus! We will miss you.
